SOIL STABILISATION

Using our innovative soil stabilisation techniques Deep Soil Mixing Ltd tackle some of the most difficult ground conditions from flood plains & soft soils through to contaminated land.

SOIL STABILISATION TO IMPROVE THE GEOTECHNICAL QUALITIES OF EXISTING SOILS

Soil stabilisation is a modern, highly efficient method of re-engineering soil properties in order to improve both its strength and durability.

Used to enhance the qualities of existing soils, soil stabilisation techniques are a cost-effective, time-efficient and environmentally friendly way of optimising soil. The performance of all soil types and ground conditions, from flood defences and retail sites through to contaminated land, can be improved using this technology.

HOW SOIL MIXING WORKS

The method involves mixing binders with the existing soil, giving the client control of the soil moisture content and ensuring the specified criteria is achieved – to meet the needs of clients as well as engineers and insurers.

Throughout the UK there are many variable and challenging soils to meet the strict demands required.  Soil stabilisation is a new technology in the UK that enables the existing soil to be strengthened simply by mixing it with the right combination of binders, enabling it to be used for a variety of end uses.

Unlike many traditional means of achieving optimised soil, there is no need to excavate and then dispose off-site the current soil as the existing material can simply be reused.

BENEFITS

The main benefit of soil stabilisation is the re-engineering of many soil classifications into strong, stable soil. By changing the physical and chemical nature of soils, soil stabilisation enhances soil properties and enables developers to choose a variety of end uses for the construction project.

Benefits include:

  • Reduction in construction costs and programme
  • Increase in long-term effectiveness of longevity and quality
  • Improved performance
  • Recyclable onsite material – No need to excavate and cart away so reducing landfill tax charges
  • Easy to achieve required soil density specification for various projects
  • Environmentally friendly solution compared to traditional soil disposal off-site
  • Effective on different soils, including soft soils, flood plains, contaminated land, peat, silts and alluvium etc.
  • Zero vibration during construction
  • Minimal spoil removal – Soil can be used as construction material
  • No need to bring costly and bulky materials on site
  • Increases bearing pressure, controls settlement and reduces permeability

APPLICATIONS

Soils of nearly every kind can be made stronger and more stable through the stabilisation technique. This includes soils that have been weakened because of a high moisture content, contaminated soil, and plain unsuitable soil – nearly all soils can be improved with this method.

Soil stabilisation works for a wide range of projects, including:

  • Car parks construction
  • Retail sites
  • Wind farms
  • Flood defences
  • Contaminated land
  • Roads and pavements construction
  • Landfill sites
  • Pipelines
  • PRBs
  • Slope Stabilisation
  • Basements
  • Sea Bed
  • Certain types of foundations

GROUND REMEDIATION: WE’LL MAKE IT WORK FOR YOU

Deep Soil Mixing Ltd has extensive experience of soil stabilisation techniques and has successfully worked with clients on a wide range of projects, including ones involving the most difficult of ground conditions.

Our techniques are effective because we match them to the individual construction project, and the chosen process depends on soil classification. Each method is formulated to meet stringent design requirements and strict onsite installation, control and testing.

We understand clients’ needs and will take the time to know your particular soil requirements for your construction project so we can use the soil stabilisation process to optimise your site material – saving you time, energy and money as well as improving the soil’s performance.
